Dave Wisniewski
I was born and reside in Toledo, Ohio .
I am married and have two children.
Early Years
My professional art experience started when Peaches Records hired me as the
store artist in 1977. I created art for all the displays and promotions
throughout the store. At that time I mastered the airbrush and began
painting airbrushed portraits of the recording artists.
A few years later I started a shop that provided custom painting for autos
and motorcycles, as well as the airbrush portraits and signs.
Bump in the Road
Early in 1987 I was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy and found my
eyesight failing fast. Laser treatments and eye surgeries were successful in
stabilizing my sight, but by the end of the year I was legally blind.
After considerable rehabilitation and guidance from the Bureau of Services
for the Visually Impaired and the Sight Center it became time to redesign my
future. When asked what it was that I would like to do, my reply was, “I am
still an artist.”
Back to school
To achieve a formal education in art, and so ,with the support of the BSVI,
I attended the University of Toledo where I majored in painting. I received
my Bachelor of Art degree in 1998 and graduated Suma Cum Laude.
The professors and instructors were instrumental in teaching me how to see
again in a way that I could continue working as an artist.
DaveWisniewski.com
With the growing popularity of the Internet I developed skills with computer
graphics and web design. I published my own web site,
www.davewisniewski.com, to display my artwork to the World Wide Web, and
began marketing my services as web developer and graphic artist.
The American Gallery
In 2000 I approached the American Gallery in Sylvania, Ohio, with my
paintings and was graciously invited to display my work. Through the gallery
I have sold work locally as well as to buyers around the country. The
American Gallery refers commission projects to me on a regular basis. I had
remained exclusive to the gallery until 2006 when I began showing my work in
local exhibitions.
Today
I continue supply the American Gallery with paintings as well as
commissioned requests. As my volume of work has increased I have begun to
expand in exhibitions. My website is always up to date on new work and
projects.
