Tin Stars
Oil on textured canvas
72" x 42"
They all had tin
stars this time but I didn't let on like I was scared, even though I
was.
I told them I didn't know where Jake was headin'. I turned and spit
some tobacco at the dog
and he tucked his tail and hid under the wagon. I felt like
doing the same thing. I could feel their eyes
cuttin' holes through me, and I'd heard what a mean son of bitch
that sheriff was so I let go of it,
"Aw hell. He's hidin' up at the Saunder ranch, damn it."

The Lawmen (and me)
as a measure of scale.
You get a sense of the size and intimidation
of the painting. I mixed a large coffee can of sawdust into the
background texture and then sanded it down after it dried.

Tin Stars now resides with a
lovely family in Big Sky, Montana.
